NTMA

The plight of American manufacturing has been greatly exaggerated. In fact, the U.S. remains among the world’s largest manufacturing economies. While our industry must overcome challenges, our story is one of growth. And thanks to American know-how, innovation, and expertise, the future is bright indeed.

As the national representative of the precision custom manufacturing industry, the National Tooling and Machining Association exists to tell this story with a powerful voice. Backed by nearly 2,000 members, representing more than $40 billion in sales, the clout we collectively wield is considerable. We also serve as a valuable national resource for our members, helping them grow profitably.

Manufacturing Institute

The Manufacturing Institute’s Close the Skills Gap framework addresses the current and future skills and workforce development gaps through the three pillars: image, quality and policy. In addition, the Institute offers a variety of toolkits for employers, educators and community leaders to implement skills certifications. Check out the resources we offer, and what they can do for you.

NIMS

Formed in 1995 by the metalworking trade associations to develop and maintain a globally competitive workforce, NIMS sets skills standards for the industry, certifies individual skills against the standards and accredits training programs that meet NIMS quality requirements. NIMS operates under rigorous and highly disciplined processes as the only developer of American National Standards for the nation’s metalworking industry accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

6S Excellence Award

Background:
In 2007, a group of NTMA shop apprentices toured Switzerland as guests of the Swiss Embassy. Upon return, they commented on the cleanliness and orderliness of the Swiss facilities relative to US shops. Based on this feedback, the NTMA Education and Technology Teams committed to improve the perception of American manufacturing by promoting and recognizing excellence in member shop organization and efficiency. The 6S Excellence Award was created.
